Our Story

In 2017, two friends came together to create the community that they longed for themselves in Toronto, Canada. We started Syzygy from the point of view that spaces for sisterhood are essential to personal growth.

Syzygy means a “union of opposites” and that is our approach to community. We embrace our differences and see diversity as a strength. We are multifaceted individuals (or opposites) that unite to share stories, ask questions, gather insights, and widen perspectives.

The Journey So Far

Throughout the years, Syzygy gatherings and workshops have explored critical issues including intersectionality, mental health, emotional wellness, and diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We invite thought leaders, experts, and womxn we admire to facilitate conversations about challenging, nuanced subject matter in intimate, welcoming, and creative settings.

Syzygy is trans and non-binary inclusive. We intentionally curate programming with diverse speakers, performers, and community leaders. To date, we’ve gathered with 200+ womxn in intimate, offline events and have partnered with 30+ womxn-driven businesses to bring our events to life.

Looking Forward

A lot has changed since our inaugural Syzygy gathering in 2017. Since then one of our co-founders relocated to San Francisco, California and in 2019, we gave ourselves an intentional pause to reexamine our purpose and a new way forward.

In 2020, our world is facing unprecedented difficulties and we know that in times such as these we need community more than ever. That is why Syzygy relaunched this year to provide online events and professional services, so that we can continue to engage each other in both supportive and critical conversations.
