Syzygy Presents
Alignment: Mind, Body, and Soul
November 3, 2018
What is alignment and how do we find it in ourselves?
In the fourth instalment of Syzygy’s seasonal gatherings, we brought in a cross-section of diverse womxn to unpack a theme that affects so many of us in different ways. From feeling secure in our bodies to navigating invisible disabilities and finding a deep connection to our own sense of self, it was a dynamic afternoon of conversation and connection with the union of opposites.
Setting the tone for the afternoon, Dawa Apothecary founder Sulafa Silim took us through a conversation on mind. Sulafa invited us to practice awareness of our own emotions and feelings — a crucial first step to finding alignment in our minds. From anxiety to career pressures, we got real about the mental barriers to alignment. For Sulafa, her own sense of mental alignment is coming through allowing herself space to pause.
Next up, body confidence advocate Kenzie Brenna led us in a conversation on body. First, she shared her personal story of self-acceptance and noted that it was through finding intersectionality that led her to feel empowered in her own skin. We then opened up the floor for a live Q&A, which had a few of us in tears as we listened to each other speak up about personal challenges and break throughs with body alignment. The dialogue was raw and liberating.
Ending us on a soulful note, singer-songwriter LIZ LOKRE led us in a soul session where she performed her music and facilitated a self-reflection exercise. LIZ reminded us not to forget about our soulful sides and the importance of trusting in our intuition. It was an active listening experience that inspired a beautiful moment of collective introspection.
The afternoon left many of us feeling moved with inspiration as we realized the strength and support that exists in sisterhood. We thank every single one of you for sharing in the moment and co-creating such a magical gathering with us.
